THE POTENTIAL OF RONDONIA

One of the 27 brazilian states, Rondônia is located in the northern region, bordered by Mato Grosso to the east, Amazonas to the north, and the Republic of Bolivia to the west and south. Its territory (237,765.347 km²).

Rondonia has 25,000 hectares of planted forest. The State has invested in and encouraged the use of degraded areas of capoeiras by creating the Planted Forests Project, transforming 45,000 hectares of degraded areas by the end of 2021.

Through the Recuperate Project, which is a bridge with the Planted Forest Project, 11 nurseries for seedling production are being established. The Government of Rondônia is producing another 180,000 seedlings in the areas of prisons in 06 (six) municipalities of the State. In addition to producing 688,000 seedlings of various forest species, and acquiring another 500,000 seedlings for the recuperation of coppices in areas of permanent preservation.

There are 49 Conservation Units in Rondonia, corresponding to around 23% of the State’s territory. Besides the Conservation Units, in the search for the protection of nature, the State also has 21 Extractive Reserves, where approximately 300 families live, linked to the preservation of cultural values and traditions. In these reserves, only the indirect use of their natural resources is permitted, different from the State Full Protection Units, where the presence of residents in their interior is not allowed.

Being the cradle of Biodiversity, Rondonia is a home to plants, animals and microorganisms that supply: food, medicines and a good part of the raw materials consumed by human beings. Attentive to the richness of the soil, fauna and flora of the State, the Government is investing in Permanent Preservation Areas (APP), to avoid the anthropization of riparian forests of springs and water courses.

In fish farming, there is also investment in the search for sustainability, as it is carried out with the possibility of ensuring balance between economic results, social responsibility and care for the environment. The production of tambaqui represents 90% of the State production, followed by jatuarana 6%, pintado 2% and pirarucu 2%. The Government has the challenge of showing society that through professionalization and environmental responsibility in pisciculture, it is possible to apply sustainable production.

For this matter, it develops inspection actions and operations against environmental illegalities. In 2020, more than 170 operations were carried out, in 2021, there were more than 140 operations, resulting in 418 offenders being fined and more than 77,000 hectares of embargoed areas with the application of more than R$ 400 million in fines.
